The Editor's Chair Welcome to the 38th issue of CultOfCinema.com, the film website that ha 20% less calories than the average film website. We have three new latest release reviews for you, the first of which centres around Joe Johnston's "horror" film "THE WOLFMAN", which has a heavyweight cast but - it seems - very little quality to back it up. Secondly, I've chipped in with a duplicate review of "THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG", which is surprisingly positive. You might actually say that it's the most positive thing on this update. Finally, Adam gives the fourth review of "PRECIOUS", and - in keeping with the rest of us - he hated it. There are two new columns for you to look over, too. The first is a look at the "OSCAR SNUBS OF 2009". As you can probably tell from the little graphic in the bottom right corner of this page, this particular column was scheduled for next week's update, but we've decided to switch this and the Oscar Predications column around. Secondly, Darren Williams takes a swipe at his favourite punching bag, Meryl Streep, in a column entitled "THE GREATEST LIVING ACTRESS?". Finally, we have two new list updates. Unfortunately, I haven't had chance to sort an update for my Complete JLG feature, but that will roll on next week. What we do have is the culmination of Darren's epic "81 OSCAR TRAVESTIES" list. Here, we see the concluding twenty entries, and yes, Streep is included. We are also saying a temporary goodbye to Eivind's "HORROR BASEMENT" feature, which concludes for now with number 47, 'Jason X'. I'm sure that when Eivind returns from his holiday he will treat us to some more horror reviews, but that particular feature is about to go on an undetermined hiatus. That's it for issue number 38, and you can expect issue 39 - complete with Oscar predictions - next week. JB. |
